Changes occurring in the body as a consequence of age Changes occurring in the body as a consequence of age

Body’s form changes in a natural way with age. A healthy life style can restrain this process.

The human body is composed by fat, lean tissue (muscles and organs), bones and water. After 30 years of age, people trend to lose lean tissue. The MedlinePlus  Portal explains that muscles, liver, kidneys and some other organs can lose some of their cells. “This muscle mass loss process is called atrophy. The bones can lose some of their minerals and become less dense (an affection called osteopenia in early stages and osteoporosis in late stages). Tissue loss reduces the amount of water in your body”, explains the article Changes in Corporal Figure due to Age, published in the above-mentioned portal.

The amount of body fat also increases in a constant manner. Older people can have almost one third more fat compared to the fat they had when being young. And there is another aspect, the trend to reduce height that is related to changes resulting from the aging of bones, muscles and joints. Around half an inch (almost 1 centimeter) is generally lost each 10 years after 40 years of age, and even faster after 70 years of age.

Living a healthy life that includes a balanced diet, regular practice of exercise and a good sleeping hygiene can reduce body’s changes.
