A blood test that detects prostate cancer in its early stages was selected at Innoveit 2017 as the most innovative project. This test reduces unnecessary biopsies by 50%.
The event, organized by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), featured this product which can use a blood test to detect the early stages of prostate cancer. This test analyzes hundreds of indicators and can identify up to 20% more tumors that are aggressive than the current blood tests that are used. Tested on 58,000 men, another plus of this test is that it reduces the need for unnecessary biopsies by 50%, resulting in the added benefit of avoiding the side effects of this test, as its creator explains. This test began to be sold last year in Scandinavian countries and is on the market in about 100 clinics, as the founder of this idea explains, Martin Steinberg of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.
