Eating nutritiously for your health and wellbeing

Eating nutritiously means eating food products that provide nutrients and keep a person healthy.

Including portions of vegetables, fruits, proteins and whole grains in your diet are especially recommended and serve as essential sources of nutrients throughout all phases of life.

The theme for World Food Day for the year 2017 is, “Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development.

According to the FAO, “Rural development can address factors that compel people to move by creating business opportunities and jobs for young people that are not only crop-based (such as small dairy or poultry production, food processing or horticulture enterprises). It can also lead to increased food security, more resilient livelihoods, better access to social protection, reduced conflict over natural resources and solutions to environmental degradation and climate change”.

  1.   Protect the stomach and the body by including fruits such as pineapple in your diet, which provides dietary fiber and help keep bowel movements regular.
  2.   Protect your vision by including corn in your meals. Eating corn daily will help maintain your eye health as it contains substances that protect the eyes from UV light.
  3.   Control your blood pressure and reduce your blood sugar by consuming cardamom, garlic, peas and whole grain oats, which help reduce the risk of heart disease.
