Having a balanced diet, including the right fats and oils, is essential for detoxification and being healthy.

What kind of fats should I include in my diet?

Saturated fats that require cooking: the American Heart Association (AHA) recommends consuming non-animal, organic and unrefined fats such as coconut oil and palm oil. As for animal fats, butter is suggested, as well as fats that come from meats, eggs and seafood.

Unsaturated fats that do not require cooking: The AHA recommends consuming oils such as olive, sesame, flaxseed and avocado oils, as well as nuts and seeds (including nut and seed butters), which provide energy to the body and are essential fatty acids.

Which ones to leave behind?

Saturated: Industrially manufactured fats are not recommended, such as margarine, hydrogenated oils and those known as “trans” fats.

Unsaturated: Foods such as pre-prepared sauces, industrial bakery creams and frozen fried products are highly processed and can oxidize easily from heat and light. Consuming oxidized oils can be toxic to the body, in addition to producing toxins that are carcinogenic over time.
