This silent disease can occur at an early age, but in most cases, it is only detected when there is a risk that affects our health.

High blood pressure is the leading cause of heart disease and stroke, as it leads to changes that affect the heart’s structure and how it functions.

While the cause of high blood pressure can be hereditary to a certain degree, the two main risk factors that can lead to this condition developing is being overweight and physical inactivity. Up to 80% of cases can therefore be prevented by leading a healthy diet and by doing physical activity that makes you use energy. According to figures from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Colombia, about 23% of the adult population in Colombia suffers from high blood pressure.

Very few cases of this disease are curable. Most cases involve a long-term control with proper medication and a diet and exercise plan.
