Despite the fact that whole grains are the one of most complete nutrients, have the greatest source of fiber and contain selenium, potassium and magnesium, most people do not include enough whole grains in their diet.
A key strategy to eating more whole grains is to replace refined food products with whole grain ones.
The idea is not to add whole grain products to your diet, but to replace certain products with others. For example, instead of eating white bread or regular pasta, opt for whole grain bread and pasta. With rice, you can add several different types of seeds, grains or even peppers and vegetables to it that give it a unique flavor.
The USDA nutrition program recommends trying to use whole wheat flour or oat flour in foods such as pancakes, waffles, muffins or other flour-based foods, as well as adding a little more yeast when necessary. Another option is to try using whole grains without sugar in ready-to-eat foods such as croutons or in soups.
