Certain factors can lead to complications in your blood pressure. Learn what they are to avoid them.

According to the Hypertension Association of Spain, blood pressure is the amount of force that puts pressure on artery walls. If this pressure rises above 140, the arteries that carry the blood begin to become seriously damaged and over time this can lead to cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarctions (heart attack), strokes or heart failure. According to the Hypertension Association of Spain, certain conditions can affect blood pressure.

  •  Breathing polluted air. According to the journal Circulation Research, this can lead to high blood pressure, even among young people.
  • Taking anti-inflammatories. Their overuse can lead to a lower production of natural anti-inflammatory substances that regulate blood pressure in the body.
  •  Stress. Anxiety causes the body to release adrenaline, a hormone that makes the blood vessels contract, which has a negative impact on the arteries.
  • Too much sugar. The American Heart Association states that consuming over 100 calories in sugar a day significantly increases blood pressure.
